Brenda Lam

Position: Education and Developmental Psychologist

Brenda started her Psychology degree in Malaysia and then completed the rest of her degree with Honours at the University of Queensland. While studying in Queensland, Brenda was granted a scholarship to do her undergraduate and Master of Psychology in Educational and Developmental Psychology.

Brenda is very much interested in positive psychology as her Master thesis was on optimism and academic stress as a function of cultural differences. She is very passionate in building young peoples’ resilience and empowering them with coping skills through strength based approaches. She is looking forward to doing a research project in this area. While research remains a big interest in Brenda’s career, her work with individual clients are generally fun and enjoyable while still keeping in mind the age of the client. She is very enthusiastic when working with people and aim to make a positive difference in their lives.

Brenda has experience working with adults and children with disability, including counselling, positive behavioural support, toileting, to name a few. She is also skilled in doing cognitive assessments and report writing across a variety of setting, including education and employment. Brenda is trained to use the FRIENDS programs, including Fun FRIENDS, FRIENDS for Life, and My FRIENDS Youth.
