Position: Clinical psychologist

Desdemona (Mona) is a clinical psychologist at Pathways. Mona obtained her Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) in Psychology from National University of Singapore in 2003. Thereafter, she worked in Singapore as a psychologist in the police force. She obtained her Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of Queensland in 2010. She is a fully registered clinical psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the College of Clinical Psychologists, as well as an accredited Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) Provider. In addition to working at Pathways, Mona works part-time as a senior clinical psychologist at the Queensland Haemophilia Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital.
Mona’s local and overseas working experiences ensure that she is able to relate to individuals from different cultures and over the entire age spectrum. Her clinical experiences include having worked in a private school, a parenting clinic, a psychology clinic, private, psychiatric and general hospitals, large corporate companies and a residential aged care facility. She particularly enjoys working with children and adolescents assisting them in dealing with a wide range of issues one faces growing up. These include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, chronic health conditions, self-esteem, school adjustment, behavioural and social difficulties, bullying and peer relationships. Mona also enjoys running group workshops and is skilled in psychological assessment and clinical report-writing.
Mona adopts a strength-based and client-centred approach. Her belief is that there is potential within every individual and sees her role as enabling her clients to discover their strengths. She also believes in empowering them with evidence-based information, practical skills and strategies that help enhance their quality of life.
