Claire Ting

Position: Educational and Developmental Psychologist

Claire Ting is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist. She completed her Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours at the University of Queensland and her Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) at Queensland University of Technology. Claire also has a Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Years) and is a registered teacher. In addition to working at Pathways, Claire works one day a week as an early primary teacher and finds that this experience gives her a deeper insight into a wide range of school related issues that children and families face. Claire has experience in varied work settings such as school counselling, hospitals, mental health facilities, special education, and employment.

Claire is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists. She is also an accredited Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) provider. Claire is trained to facilitate the FRIENDS program, and enjoys running Fun Friends groups at Pathways Health and Research Centre.

Claire is interested in fostering emotional resilience and helping children to develop their strengths. In particular, she is interested in working with children with social and emotional difficulties, and school related issues such as anxiety, learning issues, friendship skills, coping with change, and bouncing back from bullying. She is also skilled in psychoeducational assessment and report writing. Claire works using a positive, strengths-based approach, equipping children and families with a range of helpful tools that they can use to cope with difficult feelings and situations. Claire tries to make sessions enjoyable and age appropriate by incorporating children’s strengths and interests such as art and craft, and playing games.

Claire has completed a Certificate II in Australian Sign Language (Auslan). She has conversational Auslan skills and enjoys working with members of the Deaf community. Claire works with deaf and hearing impaired clients, as well as CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults), and uses a qualified NABS interpreter where required.
