Steps 2 Manhood
The first validated program providing boys with tools to develop a positive male identity
What does it mean to be a male in today’s world? Is your son ready to take those first steps towards becoming a successful and well adjusted young man? Boys throughout adolescence face many challenges and expectations on their road to adulthood. They are bombarded with conflicting views on what it means to be a man, often leading to confusion, loss of motivation and a poor self-image.
The STEPS-2-MANHOOD program is the first of its kind: a dynamic group program for early and late adolescent boys, their fathers, and other male role models, focusing on issues relating to the male identity as well as increasing well-being and confidence in adolescent boys. The primary goal is to work within a positive male team environment, where each member’s unique skills and experiences are utilised.
The main aims of the STEPS-2-MANHOOD program are to:
- Assist in forging stronger links with positive male role models and accessing mentors.
- Strengthen father-son relationships.
- Improve emotional expression and understanding.
- Develop powerful communication and negotiation skills.
- Increase flexibility in life choices, thinking and identity development.
- Increase a true sense of self-esteem.
- Develop strength in mind to increase confidence and success.
Pathways Health and Research Centre STEPS-2-MANHOOD program offers two age specific, intensive 6-week workshops for boys aged either 10-13 or 14-17, attended not only by the boys but by their fathers or other male role models. The group provides an opportunity for the boys to learn from one another and have access to a professional life-coach in a small group setting. Each weekly session runs for approximately 2.5 hours.
STEPS-2-MANHOOD is the first program of its kind that aims to provide boys with access to mentors, and the tools to develop a positive male identity. Young men will develop the strength and confidence to face life’s challenges head on.
