A GIRLS Only Group (AGOG) is an opportunity for girls to come together and practice being comfortable in their own skin, find a voice and build positive life skills that support healthy decision-making.

Our groups run across 8 sessions on Saturday afternoons. Girls can attend one, more or all sessions across the term depending on availability. Groups are capped at 10.

The Program draws heavily from the Girls in Real Life Situations curriculum and is influenced by the work of Brene Brown.

Our Psychologist Lauren Phillips, will lead these groups and is working closely with Michelle Hall our Director to develop a great curriculum to guide these groups.

Michelle is an experienced educator and counselor and is committed to delivering programs and opportunities for children that support them to grow as strong, happy and resilient individuals.

These groups are an important addition to the services offered through Pathways and something Lauren and Michelle feel passionate about.

Themes covered across the term include:

  • Who Am I?
  • Body Image
  • Choices
  • Communication
  • Emotions
  • Friendships
  • Relationships
  • Self-Esteem
  • Stress
  • Reaching Out
  • Tough Times
  • Let’s celebrate being me!

During group lessons, girls are encouraged to share feelings and struggles as they openly discuss important issues in a safe and supportive environment. They are given the opportunity to feel empowered, gain self-awareness, develop coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, understand that they are not alone, and learn to make healthy decisions.

How do these groups help?

Girls Need:  Space that is physically and emotionally safe.  Isolation from males.  Time  Emotionally “safe” comforting, challenging, nurturing conversations within ongoing relationships.  Programs that tap the cultural strengths of girls collectively, rather than individually.  Mentors who exemplify survival and growth and who share experiences that resonate with the realities of girls’ lives.

The group sessions are designed to give girls an opportunity to feel empowered, gain self-awareness, develop positive coping mechanisms, improve daily problem-solving skills, feel connected with other girls, and make healthy decisions as they grow through turbulent times.

The groups would suit girls aged 9 – 13 who are struggling with the turbulent adolescent years or those wanting to build self-confidence.
